A delight of the French cuisine is the
Quiche, which is an open tart made with eggs and various other fillings to go
with it. It is one of the dishes with which rather defines the French
gastronomy so it was about time I came up with a Quiche recipe for my blog. I already had a rapid Quiche recipe earlier (click here) but this time its the real version.
There are many types of Quiches which are
available now and they have come a long way from the original Quiche Lorraine
created sometime in the 19th century in North-Eastern France. Though the
ingredients may vary, the quiche still remains a baked dish made with a tart crust base and eggs filling it up. This recipe is my original way of making the
Quiche with some of my favorite ingredients namely ham in fine strips (allumettes
de jambon in French) and goat milk cheese (Buche de Chevre, click here for another recipe with similar cheese).
This is a very easy recipe and really
hassles free. I made it with a ready-made tart base and this eliminates
completely the complexity in getting a perfect Quiche. Here in France the Quiche
is eaten as brunch or also as a main dish for a full course meal. It is thus a
wholesome dish that can be prepared easily for regular dinners or also as a
party meal.
Ingredients
Tarte crust base : 1 (I used the Herta tart base available here in France)
Eggs : 8
Goat cheese (Buche de Chevre) : 160 grams
Black Olives : 16
Red Onions : 1/2
Tomato : 1/2
Black pepper powder : 1/2 tablespoon
Ham strips (allumettes de jambon): 180
grams
Unsalted Butter : 5 grams
Salt to taste
Procedures
Place the tarte crust base in a buttered
baking pan and blind bake it for 16 minutes at 180°C.
Chop the olives and onions into thin
slices. Cut the tomato and the goat cheese into small cubes.
Take the eggs in a deep bottomed bowl and
beat well. Add the goat cheese, olives, onions, tomato, to the eggs and mix
well.
Season it with salt. Add the black pepper
and ham to the mixture and mix well.
Take out the baking pan with the tarte base
and pour the mixture on it.
Bake it at 190°C for 30-35 minutes.
Take out the quiche and brush the top with
butter, and bake it again for 5 minutes at 190°C.
The quiche is ready. Slice it and serve.
